FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Immediately following treatment, there may be a slight redness and/or swelling which usually disappears within a few hours. Occasionally, small whiteheads or tiny scabs may occur. It is important to remember that scabs are a part of the normal healing process on body areas in some people. Scabs are not a common occurrence on the face. If small whiteheads occur, the client should inform his or her electrologist. The electrologist should be able to make adjustments, so that the whiteheads do not occur again. If scabbing does occur, the patient is advised to not pick them off. When electrology is administered by a qualified electrologist using state-of-the-art technology and techniques, the results are most satisfactory.
Unwanted hair can be safely removed from most body areas. The most common areas include the hairline, bridge of nose (unibrow), eyebrows, upper and lower lip, cheeks, sideburns, chin, neck, shoulders, arms and underarms, breasts, abdomen, bikini area, legs, back and chest. A physician's written approval may be necessary before treating hair from a mole. Treatment of hairs in the ear canal and inside the nose (in the nasal passages) involves certain risks, and these areas should not be treated.
State licensing laws and/or some general liability insurance policies may prohibit removal of hair from moles. In cases where neither of the above restrictions exists, your electrologist may require written approval from your physician.
This question is usually asked when patients see hair appearing in the treated area. Hair that appears in the area is not necessarily hair growing from a treated follicle. Most, in fact, will grow from untreated follicles. If the hair appears in six weeks or less, you can be sure that it is from a follicle that was previously dormant. Seven to eight weeks would be required for a hair to grow from the treated follicle. This is another advantage of electrology, the fact that it always works. Any type of skin or hair can be successfully treated with permanent results.
